Bridging the Gap between the Virtual and Physical Built World

One of the expert speakers at Insurtech Boston '24 was Henriette Fleischmann, CEO and Co-Founder of Hosta AI. She explained how their technology can assess a building and space from photos taken on any camera or mobile device—no app, special equipment, or sensors are required. This will accelerate claims settlements for insureds and save insurance carriers time and money.

The challenges of a 2D capture in a 3D world

One of the biggest problems with artificial intelligence is bridging the gap between the physical and virtual built environment. Why is that?

The world is still captured in 2D, yet physical objects display themselves in three dimensions. They have intricated shapes, textures, and sizes that make them difficult to analyze. Current AI models are limited in their spatial understanding, and physical interactions between objects in the real world are more complex than those in the digital world.

Closing the loop — bridged by Hosta AI through Spatial AI

Host AI was born out of MIT, and our team has built patented AI algorithms that allow us to create spatial understanding based on images and videos. Our customers don’t require special sensors or an app; Hosta AI is a true API solution that can be seamlessly integrated into existing systems and workflows.

Let’s dive into a use case we’ve accomplished with carriers today.

Damage assessment use case scenario

Let's assume you are a policyholder and you have sump pump damage. Your entire basement is flooded. You call your insurance carrier, and your carrier tells you to call a contractor to mitigate the damage and get rid of the water. Once that is complete, how does the carrier know how much to pay you? You need an adjuster to visit your home, and you schedule an appointment and wait.

With Hosta AI, you call your carrier, and they send you a link. Instead of waiting for an adjuster, you take pictures of the damage and click the link. We analyze the images through computer vision and 3D construction and prepopulate an estimate with Verisk Xactimate or Symbility CoreLogic. Now, the desk adjuster can settle the claim within 24 hours or less.

This technology will not only make your life easier but also save carriers a tremendous amount of time and money.
